Sadly, a pleasant manner, an "honest face" or the way someone talks is no assurance of reliability.
Whether you're using a contractor by recommendation or by your own choosing, ask for their business license number and ask them how long they have had it. Check this information with the local licensing office. Find out if they carry public liability and property damage insurance. Ask for the name of their insurance carrier and call them to verify that their policies are in force.
Acquiring references in your area is also a good idea. Call and check the references, as most people will be glad to help you. Try to make sure these are not relatives or associates of the contractor.
Are they willing to put all agreements, promises and understandings in writing?
Will they provide a bank reference?
Contact your local office of the Better Business Bureau (BBB). They keep records of complaints lodged against contractors in their sector and can tell you if any have been placed against the firms you name. You can find the BBB record for Olympic Roofing on the internet here.
Make sure that all agreements and promises from the contractor are put into writing. Having this information in writing protects you and your investment. It allows you to see what the contractor plans to do with your home, what he will charge to do the work, and it will provide a written warranty on his workmanship. It is important that you retain this, and any other information given to you by the contractor.
Olympic Roofing works throughout Vancouver and the lower mainland. For the last decade we've been doing every type of residential, commercial, and institutional roofing, from repairs and maintenance to installing new roofs and reroofing homes, condos, and commercial buildings.
We're family owned and operated. Our founder is a professionally trained and qualified journeyman roofer who saw the need for a more responsible roofing company. Olympic Roofing is small enough to appreciate small jobs, but large enough to tackle big ones.
Our work is done by in-house-trained craft journeymen. They are dedicated to providing quality craftsmanship with careful attention to safety. All our employees take pride in their skills and work hard to keep each jobsite clean and every customer happy.
We know the ever-changing roofing industry, and keep up-to-date on new codes and best roofing practices. All our work is fully guaranteed. (Please contact our office for details) Financing is available. Our work is certified to professional standards — click on some of the organizations we work with below for more information. The Certificate of Recognition (COR) program is for employers who go beyond the regulations of the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health & Safety by implementing health and safety management systems as well as Injury Management and Return To Work systems.
Since the inception of the COR program in 2006, Olympic Roofing, as a member of the Construction Safety Association of BC (CSABC), successfully passed all safety audits. Up until 2012, our records were kept by the CSABC. Following the merger of BC safety organizations, our audit will be supervised by the BC Construction Safety Association (BCCSA).
The COR program gives Olympic Roofing a competitive advantage, since more and more General Contractors require COR certification when making a bid. The COR also promotes a strong culture of safety, ultimately attracting safety conscious workers and making us a more reliable company.
